"Weekend Warriors & Our Best Friends"

{ Sunday, January 17, 2010 }
Hello fellow bloggers! I hope all of you have had a fulfilling and fun weekend, as I have. Aside from loathing my Algebra homework and completing a rather depressing 4-page essay on the hypothetical aftermath of a nuclear attack, the first portion of my 6 day weekend has been very pleasant.

friend⋅ship/ˈfrɛndʃɪp/ –noun 1. the state of being a friend; association as friends: to value a person's friendship.

I've recently taken the time to sit back, think, and most importantly realize how very important my friends are to me. With me leaving for college 2 hours away in the fall (granted, it's not that far away, but still!), I'm really going to miss these girls.

Although Sara (middle) is my sister and technically has to put up with me, she's still the best friend I could ever ask for. Carrie (left) has been the greatest listener and advice-giver of all time, as well as a trusty concert-goer! :) When I'm swimming my way through the sea of nearly 8,000 new faces come August, I know these two will still be the friends I talk to the most.

For the past weekend, I've also picked up the guitar and gotten back to strumming. I'm attempting in vain to break my old habit of learning nothing but catchy intros to songs. Oh well, some of us never learn, hm? Please disregard my stuffed Curious George lurking in the shadows of that photograph, by the way.

Now, for some music! I started listening to The Jakes over the summer, when I instantly fell in love with their song "Cough Syrup." However, I was broke as a joke at the moment and didn't buy their EP. Since changing their name to Young The Giant and getting back into the recording studio for 2010, they've graciously offered their wonderful EP, Shake My Hand, for free download on Purevolume.com for a limited time here! Be sure to snap it up before time runs out, it's been playing non-stop in my room and car this weekend. Still feeling a tad iffy over whether or not the EP is worthy of your hard drive space and iTunes library? Take a listen to my favorite song, "Paid the Piper" and get a feel for Young The Giant's smooth infusion of jazz, soul, and flawless indie rock.
